The Raving Theist

Dedicated to Jesus Christ, Now and Forever

Sold!

For $28,000. To an online casino. Get your Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese sandwich makers, T-shirts, thongs, mesh trucker hats, cleaner upper sponges, candles, photos-in-a-bottle, Christmas ornaments, silver pendants, coffee mugs, dollar bills, buttons, toilet paper, Hotmail addresses, wall clocks and oil paintings while they last. For skeptics, the sandwich comes in an agnostic version as well.

Perhaps someday someone will start a religion involving a Virgin Mary in non-grilled cheese form and try to sell merchandise related to that. Nah, it would never work — people aren’t that stupid.

Virgin Mary brand condoms. Because there’s no way you’ll fool your parents into thinking God did it!

I should just start burning some toast and scraping the vague outline of a woman into each piece. I could do the whole 13 (or whatever) stages of the cross, and pay my way through grad school.

In another thread, Rebecca responded to one of my comments with this:

“BTW in response to ZroKewl, I believe he is overlooking the fact that a baby recieves its own UNIQUE DNA at conception. From that point on, it has a seperate genetic code than its mother. So, logically speaking, how can we consider it a part of the woman’s body (a blob of tissue)?”

I didn’t see the response, and comments are closed on that post now, so please allow me to respond here:

An identical twin doesn’t have UNIQUE DNA, and neither would a fetus cloned from the mother’s, father’s or someone elses’ DNA. Yet, we still know that man-made and natural clones (twins) are PEOPLE… not because their DNA is UNIQUE (because it isn’t), but because they can THINK (ie: they have a mind). I should also note that every egg and sperm that are produced have their own UNIQUE DNA… yet we still consider them to be part of the person’s body in which they live. Because of all of these things, UNIQUE DNA, I submit, is not a good criteria for personhood.

Thus the problem with atheism. It’s not nearly as marketable and tends toward the dour. I see alot of unpleasantness about the other side. I can laugh with atheists, or at them; I can do likewise with all other religions. I do count atheism as a religion, of course, because it fits in with my general theory of life, which can be gleaned from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy if one really wishes to delve into it.
